Yet again, he came to me. Croton, he calls himself: a prince of the Bloodwood Fey. They tolerate the citizens of Redstone but their stance is clear: they will not grant passage through the Bloodwood, not for myself and not for anyone. I have no desire to physically remove them but they may leave me no choice. I will try once more to convince them; if gold or common sense cannot sway them, I will have to make a more drastic decision.
One of the bandits who have been working for me - Vika, I think her name is - knows a thing or two of the Fey. She tells me Croton is to wed - and so I had created a treasure so beautiful that I knew the Lady Foxglove would be helplessly bewitched. A peace offering, I told her - between her people and mine. To the Fey, accepting a gift means that they are indebted to the gifter - and to my delight she fell for the trap instantly. Croton was furious at her when he learned she had accepted the gift, but more so at me for outsmarting him. As if he would have been the one to outsmart me.
I was, of course, generous in the proposal that I made to him next - a release of his lady from any obligation to me, in exchange for magics that would ensure we would neither of us be bothered by the other again.
And now I possess a trinket that allows me to pass through the forest without harassment from those vile creatures. Now all that remains is to replicate its magics so that I can build my roads safely. Knowing that I am the only man to have tamed the Severed Valley, I can surely charge a higher toll for my efforts.
